Meet the Hulk. The newest addition to the Molenaar Family. He will be used to transport me to and from school next september, and for many road trips i'm sure. The first weekend after school was done, I was feeling quite weird because I didn't have any work to do and I could just relax and do nothing. It was very satisfying. But now that work has started it's a different story.

Work is getting quite hectic. I'm not really enjoying it at all. I mean the job itself is not too bad, but it's hard working there and being a Christian. It's tough when you don't have a support system around you like you do at Redeemer where everyone understands you and what you believe. At Shoppers on the other hand I get bombarded with questions and arguments and discussions. Which on one hand is good, because it tests me and my faith, but on the other hand discourages me and brings me down. Not all the questions are focused on my faith persay, but more on Christians in general. Currently I and one other girl are the only Christians that work in the pharmacy. And she's a very new one, so it's hard. I am constantly asked about the DaVinci code, what my thoughts are on it, why Christians are hippocrites, what we believe, why we believe it, what our personal relationships are like, our morals, values, you name it...we've talked about it. But sometimes the talk gets so heavy that I don't know what to say, or they talk amongst themselves and don't really point the questions to me directly but talk right beside me about it.

But one good thing, was that we were talking about relationships and one of the girls said that she always feels that she has to stop herself from saying things sometimes because she knows that i'm there and she feels weird saying them around me. So I guess i'm having some sort of impact on them. They all know that i'm a Christian. I don't hide that. But it has sure been challenging.

So that's basically what i've been doing for the last few weeks since school's been done. I've also been looking for a 2nd job, perferably a day job. I had an interview today at Lansdowne Children's Center to be an RTA (Resource Teacher's Assistant) and work one on one with a special needs child in a day care setting. The main focus of the program is integrating the children with special needs into regular school settings. I think the interview went well, but I won't find out if I got it for a few weeks. So we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted!

Me having fun with Photoshop...procrastination is fun!

A year has past and now we stand on the brink of returning to a world where we are surrounded by the paradox of everything, and yet nothing being the same. In 1 week we will reluctantly give our hugs and, fighting the tears, say goodbye to people who were once just names on a sheet of paper to return to people that we hugged and fought tears to say goodbye to before we ever left. We will leave our best friends to return to our best friends. We will go back to the places we came from and go back to the same things we did last summer and every summer before that. We will come into town on that same familiar road, and even though it has been months, it will seem like only yesterday. As you walk into your old bedroom, every emotion will pass through you as you reflect on the way your life has changed and the person you have become. You suddenly realize that the things that were most important to you a year ago don't seem to matter so much anymore, and the things you hold highest now, no one at home will completely understand.

The memories and the stories from school won't mean anything to anyone at home and yet you resent them for that, that they can't share that happiness with you. Who will you call first? What will you do your first weekend home with your friends? How long before you actually start missing people barging in without calling or knocking? Who will get pizza at three in the morning with you now? How long until you adjust to sleeping alone in a room again? Then you start to realize how much things have changed, and you realize the hardest part of university/college is balancing the two completely different worlds you now live in, trying desperately to hold on to everything all the while trying to figure out what you have to leave behind.

In the matter of one day's travelling time, we will leave our world of living next door to our best friends, walking across campus to eat, instant messenger, 8:30am classes, and the perpetual procrastination to a world that will seem foreign to us despite the fact that we lived in it for eighteen years. But it is different now. We now know the meaning of true friendship. We know whom we have kept in touch with over the past year and whom we hold dearest in our hearts. We've left our high school world to deal with the real world. We've had our hearts broken, we've fallen in love, we've helped our best friends overcome depression, stress and death, and we've stayed up all night on the phone just to talk to a friend in need.

There have been times when we've felt so helpless being hours away from home when we know our families needed us, and there are times we know we have made a difference. 1 week from now we will leave. 1 week from now we take down our pictures, and pack up our clothes. No more going next door to do nothing for hours on end. We will leave our friends whose random email and phone calls will bring us to laughter and tears this summer. We will take our memories and dreams and put them away for now, saving them for our return to this world. 1 week from now we will arrive.

We will unpack our bags and have dinner with our families. We will drive over to our best friend's house and do nothing for hours on end. We will return to the same friends whose random emails and phone calls have brought us to laughter and tears over the year. We will unpack old dreams and memories that have been put away for the past year. In 1 week we will dig deep inside to find the strength and conviction to adjust to change and still keep each other close. And somehow, in some way, we will find our place between these two completely different worlds...are you ready?

So today I got my first sunburn of the summer. I promise, after exams, I will be more regular.

So i'm home this weekend, and it's easter. In 2 weeks I am moving home for the next two years, and officially becoming a commuter. This week has been crazy. This is what it's involved...

1. doing a Psych Presentation
2. finishing a 17 page paper for Biblical Hermeneutics
3. doing a dance because I was happy that I was done that stupid paper....
4. packing up and going home wednesday night
5. having my first ride in my brother's new Chevy S10.
6. working at the good ol' pharmacy
7. working on my resume
8. sleeping in until 11am this morning
9. having my mom make us breakfast with dyed-hard boiled eggs for easter!
10. going to work
11. figuring out financial things for the rest of my life
12. finishing my resume
13. writing this blog

And that's all in the last...5 days! Rediculous! Actually, now that I look back at it, it doesn't seem like that much. oh well!

Oh! Best blonde quote ever, but not made by me. I was at work today, and we were talking about my boss' shirt, which looked like an orange sherbet colour. And randomly, one of the girls is like, yum! I love sherbet. and then it started a discussion on ice cream and sherbet. when all of a sudden, one of the girls was like, "what's that yogurt stuff that's frozen and it's like ice cream?" and me, being the smart alek I am exclaim, "you mean, frozen yogurt?!" haha best blonde moment ever! She went so red, and everyone laughed. it was great...and it wasn't me being an idiot this time. that's it...

My Celebrity Look-Alike...

Others included: Christina Ricci - 74%, Ashley Olsen - 72%, Naomi Watts - 72%, Michelle Rodriguez - 71%, Mary Kate Olsen - 71%, Kate Winslet - 71%, and Martina McBride - 71%

Check out to see which celebrity you look like: MyHeritage face recognition

Dorm 40's Man Servant

This past Friday at Redeemer, there was an auction for a school called Hilltop in...I can't remember which country, and all of the proceeds went there. So basically you could donate a talent, food, or any kind of service and all of the money raised would go towards sending a child to this school. (a child could be sent to Hilltops for $100) The biggest bid went on a Baked Cheese Cake made my Felix Lam for $450! One of the items up for bid was my friend Randall. He was offering his "services" for whatever we wanted him to do. If we bought him for under $100 then he would work for a full 2 hours, but if you bid over $100 then you get him for a full day. So I ended up bidding on him for $110! lol But I knew I couldn't afford that, and neither could anyone in my dorm, so we split it with another dorm and got him for 12 hours each!

Yesterday was Randall's day with us. It started off with Jess and I picking him up after our morning enviro lab. He then carried our bags and keys and escorted us to our dorm. We then took Randall for a walk back to the school to get groceries, while he carried the cart and everything! After cleaning half a bathroom, Randall had a break... then we made "Dorm 40's Man Servant" signs and taped them onto him. Then Randall escorted Jess to class and handed in a Midterm Take Home for me. After that, Randall and I paraded around school for awhile. When we got home he finished the bathrooms and started on making dessert for after dinner that evening (trifle!). Jess wanted him to pick her up from her class so Amy W took Randall to the school to do that. After that, the rest of the afternoon was spent vacuuming, eating lunch, relaxing, and making dessert and dinner. Randall made us a lovely hamburger dinner with salad, chips, and dessert. He then did the dishes, and then I treated him to going to the play. (what a nice master i am...) after the play Randall basically stayed until he had cleaned our whole house. We have dorm inspection today and it looks really good! He did a great job, and we had a lot of fun! $55 well spent!

<img style="DISPLAY: block; I was looking through my shoe box that I keep them in and I pulled out an envelope from this past Christmas. On the Molenaar side of the family, it is tradition that we get an envelope with money in it from Oma and Opa. It is also a tradition that Opa writes a sort of...thought on the outside of the envelope. A fortune if you will! It's like a fortune cookie, but a fortune envelope if you will... So I found the one from last Christmas and I thought I would share it with you guys. I hope it makes you think!

"If you think you can't, you won't. It took us about 24 hours to finally reach our destination in Luling, LA at a the First Presbyterian Church where we resided all week in small pod-like tents. We were warmly welcomed and quickly introduced into what kind of work we were going to be getting ourselves into. Sunday consisted of attending the morning church service, singing "In Christ Alone" infront of the congregation, Cory McCarthur saying his testimony and Matt Pamplin talking a little bit about our team and doing a slight introduction. After the service, we had the chance to mingle with the church members and hear their stories of the hurricane.

After church we headed on down to New Orleans to view some of the Mardi Gras parades. Mardi Gras is basically a celebration of getting everything out of your system before Lent comes. Which includes drinking, smoking, doing whatever...you get the idea. Up to 2 weeks before the actual Mardi Gras festival they have parades and parties and such. Thankfully we were there a week before the actual festivites began. So we went to the parades, and then went off in groups to explore New Orleans. My Group (Nikki, Tom, Teresa, Mans and I) stuck together and went venturing to Flea Markets and fun things like that. Then we started walking down a street called Burbon Street, which is known for bad things happening there. As we were walking we walked through gay sections of the street and other surprising acts. We quickly turned off the street and felt the need to pray. Having a deep sinking feeling in our guts that what we've seen is very sinful (duh!) and wanting to pray for the city. We headed for for a coffee shop and began to pray. It felt really good. And as much as I really didn't want to see that kind of stuff I really think that I learned a lot from that experience.

On Monday our team of 21 was split up into two different teams. One team went to a 1920's house that was really old and had a lot of work to do in it, and my team headed for the Upper Middle Class area. We started work on Tim and Anna's house that day. Their house had all of their personal belongings still in it, so we pulled all of that out and then there was about 3 inches of black mudd from the lakes in the surrounding area on the floors. So we then had to shovel that up and then continue with tearing down drywall, ripping up floors, ceilings, you name it, we did it. We finished the house in 2 days and then moved onto our next project. The next house we went to had their fridge wide open, and we were told that if we open a fridge by accident we weren't allowed to work in there for 24 hours afterwards. The smell of this fridge was SO bad that I got extremely sick and had to go back to the church for the day where I was taken care of by the women at the church. We finished that house in two days also.

Going on this trip has taught me a lot of things. Firstly that we shouldn't be so consumed in our possessions. It was really hard for me to see Anna and Tim go through their personal belongings and see them bawling their eyes out at what they've lost. I can't even imagine how their feeling or how I would feel if I had just lost everything i've ever owned. It also came to my attention that I became very frustrated and angry with the state that things are in down there. It looks as if nothing has been done, like the hurricane happened yesterday, and it's been 6 months! We were pretty much the only people working on houses on our streets. There's garbage everywhere and things are such a mess. It's really unbelievable. Please continue to pray for the city of New Orleans, because it is in dire need of a change.

Back to Blogging!

Alright, so here I am blogging again. I know I suck at this, but i am seriously going to try harder at doing it regularly. As for an update, I am now currently a brunette! Yes I know it's a shock. School's going good. I just finished a few weeks of rediculous busyness. 3 weeks ago I went on a missions trip to Louisiana for a week to help gutt houses in New Olreans, and let me tell you, it looks like nothing has been done there at all. It made me really frustrated. But i'll tell you more about that in another blog. I then went to Chicago for a Leadership Seminar for 4 days at Willowcreek Church. It was a huge learning experience and I am still trying to process what i've learned and tried to apply it to my life. There's also a few other new things going on in my life, but you should talk to me if you want to hear about them. :D

Proud to be Dutch!

Over the past few years of having family come over from Holland, going to a majority dutch school, and having my morals finally kick in, i've realized who i actually am. i am the spitting image of my dutch ancestors! ok, maybe I don't dress like them, or have an accent, or live IN holland, but i definitely follow their stubborness, cheap/frugalness, i love the dutch food over any other kind, and i truly value my family. i don't mean that other cultures don't value their family, but i believe i've become more appreciative of them. I proudly own a HUGE Dutch flag that hangs beside my bed on my wall at school, I have a miniture windmill, I am trying to use my Dutch - English Dictionary as much as I can when I talk with my cousins from Holland. I beg them to talk to me in dutch so that I can learn. I proudly write out sentances on sticky notes and have them stuck to my wall beside my computer so that I can use them at any chance that may pop up. I love klompen, and have had the latest fetish of collecting pictures of them and saving them so that one day i can print them out and hang them on my wall. I am the proud owner of the most common dutch last name, Molenaar. The last name Molenaar is like Smith in Canada. And I've noticed that any time my dormmates and I go to the store to buy groceries, we look for strope waffles, pepernoten, and speculas! I truly do love the dutch culture, and i'm beginning to believe that i have true dutch blood in me. I am the one in my family who talks with my cousins from Holland atleast once a week on msn and we send emails and pictures back and forth all the time. i am now currently residing at my parents house for the next 2 weeks. today after my exam, chelsea, jess, amy and i all went to see and take pictures of our house for next year. i took 48 pictures! it's beautiful! a nice location, cheap, and i'll be living with amazing people! tonight, just about 30 minutes ago i went into the kitchen to get a drink of milk, and there was a mouse on the counter! i didn't scream or anything, because everyone's asleep and i'm not afriad of mice, but i was a little grossed out...lol. so i went and woke up my dad because the mouse had crawled under our stove burners. he set up a few traps on the counter, and within about 10 minutes i heard a snap! and i ran to the kitchen to see this poor hopeless mouse with his head stuck in a trap, bleeding everywhere and struggling like nothing else! my dad heard me, or heard the trap go off, because he wanted to get him right away... and wouldn't sleep until he got him. he came into the kitchen and instructed me to help him get rid of this mouse! i was so grossed out and i'm not a huge fan of hurting animals. even mice. so he told me to get a plate and some paper towel, because the mouse was bleeding and dad didn't want blood on the floor. then we proceeded to the bathroom to send the mouse to his wattery grave. dad dropped him in, we watched him swim around for a bit, and then dad made me push the trigger to send the poor guy to his death...it was horrible! i didn't want to do it, but dad said i had too! then, after sending him down, dad told me to flush again, because sometimes they come back...so now that i'm afraid that there's going to be a mouse in the toilet in the morning, i'm going to bed...goodnight!

Like my new hair cut??

Lots of fun things to look at while you're procrastinating from exams...

SNL: Christmas Song!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=ERDHxP0ryk4&search=SNL

William Hung Impression
http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=rC_OwSIWoaQ&search=SNL

Jeffries
http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=WubIGeMeueA&search=SNL

Fridge Magnets
http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=c5H7kMOpS5Y&search=SNL

New Spartans SKIT!! If so, then December 21 2005, is not the day for you. This year December 21 is the Northern Hemisphere's winter solstice, the shortest day—and longest night—of the year. The length of days changes throughout the year.

In the summer, the sun often sets after 9 p.m. In the winter, it may already be dark as you head home from school. Day length varies because of the Earth's tilt.

The Earth travels around the sun. But the Earth does not orbit with the North Pole at the top and the South Pole at the bottom. Instead, the Earth is tilted slightly. Because the Earth is tilted, different parts of the Earth face the sun at different times of year.

"Half the year the sun is hitting the Northern Hemisphere and half the year it's hitting the Southern Hemisphere," explains Bill Murtagh, a solar forecaster with the U.S. Space Environment Center in Colorado.

The Northern Hemisphere's winter solstice occurs when that hemisphere is tilted the farthest away from the sun. This happens every year between December 21 and 23.

But what about the Southern Hemisphere? Here's where the winter solstice gets complicated.
The Southern Hemisphere has its summer solstice when the Northern Hemisphere has its winter solstice. That's because in December, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun. When it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it's summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
The winter solstice marks the official first day of winter. Test results showed that many women are having trouble using today's mouse. For the female target group a new mouse has been developed, with the most important criteria being feel, comfort and ergonomics. After the first prototype was created, male focus groups were polled to ensure that nobody was being discriminated against. The male groups did not show any concerns and even voiced that after viewing a woman using the new mouse it seemed very natural and practical.

The information contained in this document is for the exclusive use of the addressee and may contain confidential, privileged and non-disclosable information.
